Labadee Haiti Royal Caribbean private island cruise port schedule

Just like on the ship, your SeaPass card is what you will need for most transactions on the island. There is a complimentary ferry at the pier that will take you directly to Columbus Cove to save time. Depending on if you want to be close to the ship, want the prettiest water, or want the best views, there can be a few good choices to consider. For families or groups, a cabana rental can make a lot of sense for the convenience it provides, along with the great amenities. From zip lines to parasailing to luxury cabana retnals, there's no shortage of things to do in this tropical paradise. Obviously, if you are travelling from any other country such as the UK, you’re going to need your passport to get into the US anyway for your departure port, so you will need it to board the ship.

Cruise along the Haitian Coast

While Royal Caribbean takes your SeaPass card on Labadee, many Haitians work on the island too, and they only take cash. Families usually like to go between Columbus Cove or Adrenaline Beach for the views and open water. If you want to make the most of your visit, here are some Labadee tips to share from my many visits. Any purchases you do make at the resort – excluding the shops – can be done using your Sea Pass, with the cost added to your cruise account. But that doesn’t mean you can wander without a care – the merchants will still try to sell you items for more than they are worth, and they can be very pushy too. Be firm if you don’t want to buy something, and don’t be afraid to haggle.

Merchants selling souvenirs in Labadee operate under the permission of the cruise line – anyone who tried to scam you would very quickly lose their license and be unable to sell their wares. In March 2024, 4,000 prisoners escaped from a Haitian jail, and since then, Royal Caribbean had to suspend visits to Labadee as a precaution. Labadee, Haiti: A Secure Haven for Royal Caribbean Travelers

The cruise giant had previously paused voyages to its private resort in mid-March and has now decided to extend this suspension through to the end of May. These cabanas can be reserved via Cruise Planner (at RCI's website) and are 2 types - "Beach" and "Over-Water". Rent prices are USD 395 (Beach Cabana) and USD 495 (Over Water Cabana). Over-Water cabanas are built on rock groupings and have walkways down to the sea. Barefoot Beach on Labadee is an RCCL private beach property with exclusive access for Suite passengers and Pinnacle members of the company's "Crown & Anchor Society" loyalty program.

I went on a roller coaster a couple of times and truly enjoyed it, even though I am afraid of heights. The jet ski sign-up hut is located at Buccaneer’s Bay, right at the resort entrance. Jet Ski ride usually takes around 1.5 hours and is guided by an instructor.

Nellie's Beach is another RCCL private beach property with free access for all cabin types of passengers. The beach offers a variety of private cabanas available for rent (at additional cost, on a first-come-first-served basis). Each cabana has max capacity 6 people, 2 lounge chairs, a large indoor seating area. These cabanas can be reserved via the ship's Concierge or the onboard Shore Excursions desk. The floating bar is located underneath the zip line, which should provide for some fun views as guests enjoy a beverage at the bar. Labadee is a private port on the northern coast of Haiti, but while it is a private resort it is not owned by Royal Caribbean.

Just use your SeaPass when ordering and you will get the drinks without an extra cost. Celebrity Cruises offers as many 19 shore excursions and Royal Caribbean lists 43 cruise excursions. Royal Caribbean has a team at headquarters that monitors incidents that could impact their cruise ships.

If you want to enjoy the gorgeous views of Haiti’s mountainous coast, you need to book a shore excursion for an extra fee. I mentioned above that the food, beaches, and sunbeds are complimentary in Labadee for all cruise ship passengers. These are all offered by the cruise line, so you can’t book any activity or excursion with an independent tour operator.

Haitian Village Sightseeing & Cultural Experiences

Regardless of which beach you end up going to, you should bring some cash with you for tips. Chairs are complimentary, but there are locals on Labadee who will help you set them up and it is customary to provide a tip for the assistance. Which beach you pick can depend on a lot of factors, especially what time you arrive at the beach. Crowds will build as the day progresses and most guests tend to fill spots closest to the dock first, extending out towards Adrenaline Beach and Columbus Cove.

The cruise port in Labadee has a 0.25-mile (400 meters) pier extending south into the ocean. It has one berth where extra-large ships like Royal Caribbean's Oasis class can dock. At the end of the pier, cruise passengers enter the main gate to the property.

Take the family to a water park or zipline the entire length of the island. Relax in a private bungalow or take a ride on the Dragon’s Tail Roller Coaster to take things up a notch. Furious Flyer Zipline (shore excursion, booking code ZLE8) has as requirements minimum weight 34 kg, minimum height 1,2 m (tall) and max weight 125 kg (no minimum age). This hrilling sky-high adventure offers tandem zip-lining along 850 m (2800 ft) long zipline above Labadee's forested mountains and tropical seascapes. The excursion starts from a launch tower where expert trainers deliver safety briefings and equipment (helmet and cable harness).

Here, situated on a peninsula on the northern coast of Haiti, visitors can zip line, kayak, snorkel, or simply lounge on one of the peninsula’s white sandy beaches. The resort also features several shops, restaurants, and bars, making it an all-inclusive destination. A cruise to Labadee will lead you to adrenaline-amping adventures everywhere you look. There are high-energy activities for all levels of daredevils throughout the island — all you have to do is choose which thrill to chase first. From ziplining across the ocean to jumping on floating trampolines on the water, your heart is bound to race with excitement.

Unlike what you may read in less accurate reviews, Labadee is not an island. The cruise port of Labadee is in an enclosed peninsula in Haiti with a vast area that is, in reality, a gatted resort for the exclusive privilege of passengers of Royal Caribbean. In March, Royal Caribbean announced "in an abundance of caution" its cruise ships would halt visits while the cruise line monitors the safety of the situation. If you want to explore the culture and traditions of native Haitians, there are several Labadee shore excursions you can book. Some of them include a visit to a local village, while some include cultural workshops and a stroll around Labadee. Labadee coaster is another must-do activity in Labadee, as it goes through the lush forest and offers unmatched views of Labadee (Haiti) once you are at the top.

The cruise line does run the operations of the resort though, with an estimated 300 locals employed by the cruise line. Unlike what happens onboard your cruise ship, you will not find towel stations in Labadee. Passengers cruising in Grand Suites and above can access the Barefoot Beach Club with luxurious cabanas and an oceanview spa. All other passengers may book different cabanas categories, beach bungalows, beach loungers, and beach beds. Many if not most of the top things to do in Labadee are offered on shore excursions but there are quite a enjoyable free attractions to enjoy.

It’s laid-back here, and you can enjoy finer dining onboard and as you travel to other destinations on your cruise. For those with inclusive food and beverage packages, dining on the island is all part of the package. There are also eight bars on the island for your beverage needs, complete with signature cocktails and virgin drinks for those who prefer non-alcoholic options. Set up your beach towel and lounge on Labadee’s white sand beaches with a good book or go on a snorkeling adventure.

In addition, there is an artisan market you can browse, along with crafts available to purchase at different spots. The Haitians working there cannot take your SeaPass card, so bring a few dollars with you rather than having to trek back to the ship to get some later. You can use it to order drinks, and gain access to certain activities. If you end up booking a tour or rent snorkel equipment, you will need it for that too.
